In the heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Delhi, a tale of rejection and vengeance took a tragic turn. The victim, Nargis, a 25-year-old woman, met a brutal fate in a park near Aurobindo College in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. Her lifeless body lay next to an iron rod, serving as a grim reminder of the brutal murder that had transpired. The perpetrator of this ghastly crime was none other than her own cousin, Irfan, who surrendered himself to the authorities not long after the dreadful deed.

As the investigation progressed, the unsettling truth emerged that Nargis and Irfan shared a familial bond; their mothers were sisters. Irfan disclosed to the police that he had harbored a deep desire to marry Nargis, but his hopes were crushed when both she and her family declined the proposal. The rejection weighed heavily on him, exacerbating the disappointment and frustration he faced while trying to find another suitable partner.

With the weight of his emotional turmoil, Irfan meticulously planned the shocking act over a period of three days. On that fateful day, he cunningly orchestrated a situation to draw Nargis to the park, knowing she would pass by on her way back from her stenography class. However, when he approached her with the intent of discussing their future together, Nargis steadfastly refused to engage with him. Fueled by a mix of rejection, anger, and despair, Irfan unleashed his rage, violently attacking her with the iron rod he had concealed in his bag.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), Chandan Chowdhury, shed light on the tragic motive behind Irfan’s actions, highlighting how the rejection and the cessation of communication with Nargis had driven him to commit such a horrendous crime.

Amidst the shock and grief surrounding Nargis’s brutal murder, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, voiced her deep concern. She drew attention not only to this heart-wrenching incident but also to another murder of a woman that had occurred in Delhi’s Dabri area the night before. Maliwal expressed her distress over the deteriorating safety situation in the national capital and called on the authorities to take responsibility and accountability for the Delhi Police. Urging the implementation of effective measures, she emphasized the need to safeguard women and prevent such horrifying incidents from recurring in the future. The echoes of these tragic events resonate across the city, serving as a stark reminder of the urgent need to prioritize the safety and security of its residents.
