Delhi Metro Sets Record with 68.16 Lakh Passenger Journeys

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Tuesday announced that Delhi Metro will be running around 106 extra train trips on its corridors to facilitate passengers on the festival of Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Anuj Dayal, the Principal Executive Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), recently revealed plans to manage the surge in commuters using the metro services. Dayal announced that additional personnel will be stationed at various metro stations to handle the increased rush of passengers. This measure includes the operation of extra ticket counters to expedite the process. To further alleviate the congestion at ticket counters, Dayal urged passengers to embrace the convenience of the DMRC Travel Mobile App for purchasing QR tickets.

Acknowledging the importance of passenger guidance and assistance, Dayal shared that Guards and Customer Facilitation Agents (CFA) will be deployed at major metro stations. Their role will be to support and guide commuters during the increased footfall, ensuring a seamless travel experience.

In a separate noteworthy announcement, DMRC proudly declared a significant achievement – an unprecedented 68.16 lakh passenger journeys on a single day, dated August 28, 2023. This figure stands as the highest daily passenger count recorded, both before and after the COVID-19 pandemic shook global travel patterns. To provide context, the previous record was set at 66,18,717 on February 10, 2020, just before the pandemic altered the transportation landscape.

Anuj Dayal applauded this remarkable feat, highlighting it as a reflection of the resilience and trust that the citizens of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have placed in DMRC’s world-class transportation system. He praised the dedicated efforts of DMRC’s staff, the unwavering support from the residents of Delhi NCR, and the commitment to offering safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transport solutions. Dayal emphasized that while achieving this milestone, DMRC continues to prioritize passenger safety and comfort, while simultaneously improving connectivity throughout the Delhi NCR region.

Dayal concluded by asserting that this milestone underscores DMRC’s mission to deliver accessible, reliable, and sustainable transportation solutions. The achievement stands as a testament to DMRC’s unwavering dedication to serving its passengers and further solidifies its position as a leader in the transportation sector.
