J&K Police Arrest Terrorist Involved in Murder

Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara's Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead on Thursday on the shrine's premises by two men on a motorcycle

On February 7th, 2024, the tranquility of the Srinagar area in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir ((J&K) was shattered by a gruesome act of violence. Two labourers from Punjab, Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, were brutally murdered in the Habba Kadal area of the city. The incident sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced by non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir.

The perpetrator of this heinous crime, Adil Manzoor Langoo, a known terrorist, was apprehended by the Jammu and Kashmir police. Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar confirmed the arrest, bringing a sense of relief to the affected community and signaling a decisive action against terrorism in the region.

Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, hailing from the Amritsar district of Punjab, had journeyed to Jammu and Kashmir in search of livelihood opportunities. Engaged in woodwork, they were working hard to support their families back home. However, their dreams were brutally cut short when Langoo, armed with a pistol, attacked them at their residence in the Shalla Kadal area of Shahed Gunj.

The attack resulted in the tragic demise of Amritpal Singh on the spot, while Rohit Masih, critically injured, succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital. The loss of these innocent lives sent shockwaves across the country, prompting swift action from the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The arrest of Adil Manzoor Langoo marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation. Langoo, reportedly radicalized by Pakistan-based handlers through social media, represents the insidious influence of external forces in stoking violence and instability in the region. His apprehension sends a strong message that terrorism will not be tolerated, and those responsible for such cowardly acts will be held accountable.

The incident also underscores the ongoing security concerns faced by non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the region has witnessed sporadic incidents of violence targeting individuals from outside the state. The attack on Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih is a stark reminder of the challenges posed by extremism and separatism in the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police, in collaboration with security forces, have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents, irrespective of their origin. However, the incident highlights the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to prevent such tragic events from recurring in the future.

In recent years, there have been several instances of violence against non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir, including attacks on migrant workers and security personnel. These incidents not only pose a threat to individual lives but also undermine the peace and stability of the region.

The government of India has reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of all residents in Jammu and Kashmir. Measures such as enhanced security deployments, intelligence gathering, and community outreach programs have been implemented to address the root causes of extremism and prevent radicalization.

The arrest of Adil Manzoor Langoo is a testament to the effectiveness of these efforts and serves as a warning to those who seek to disrupt peace and harmony in the region. It sends a clear message that perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice, and the rule of law will prevail.

As the investigation into the attack on Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih continues, the authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By working together, we can ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, free from the threat of terrorism and violence.
