Mobile Workforce: Global Skills for Future Employment

During the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting, held with a virtual format, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a significant message on the growing importance of a mobile workforce in shaping the global future of work. He highlighted the necessity for countries to empower their workforce with advanced technological skills and processes to effectively embrace and navigate the emerging trend of a mobile and agile workforce.

Prime Minister Modi took pride in India’s experience of successfully creating a substantial number of technology jobs during past transformations, making it a fitting host for such an influential gathering. He urged the G20 member nations to play a leading role in fostering the development and exchange of skills on an international level. This includes establishing a system of referencing occupations based on specific skills and qualifications requirements to enhance global workforce mobility.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic underscored the dedication and proficiency of frontline health workers and other essential personnel in India. PM Modi commended their tireless efforts, highlighting that their actions not only demonstrated their skills but also embodied India’s rich culture of service and compassion. Expressing great optimism, he emphasized that India possesses the potential to become a prominent supplier of skilled workers on the global stage.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi stressed the significance of continuous skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling of the workforce as vital factors for shaping the future workforce. He labeled these as the guiding principles that nations need to adopt to prepare their workforce for the dynamic and ever-evolving job market. India’s ambitious Skill India Mission serves as a crucial initiative to align the country’s workforce with the demands of the modern economy, emphasizing the importance of staying relevant and adaptive in the face of rapid technological advancements.
