Muharram: PM Modi pays Homage

Muharram, the inaugural month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar, holds immense significance within the Muslim community worldwide. In the year 2023, Muharram commenced on July 19th, with the most pivotal day, Ashura, being observed on July 29th.

On this auspicious occasion, PM Modi took to Twitter to pay homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and recall his sacrifices. The courage and commitment of Hazrat Imam Hussain to the principles of justice and human dignity are highly commendable. Muharram is considered the month of Allah and is observed with profound reverence by both Sunni and Shia Muslims.

The historical significance of Ashura lies in commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain during the Battle of Karbala, where he was ruthlessly killed despite fighting being forbidden. Additionally, it is believed that Prophet Ibrahim was born on the 10th day of Muharram.

Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, holds deep importance for Muslims as it is a time of reflection on the teachings of Imam Hussain and the values he stood for. This period is marked by mourning, remembrance, and a renewed commitment to the principles of justice, compassion, and human dignity for which Imam Hussain sacrificed his life.

During the month of Muharram, Muslims engage in various religious activities and remembrance. Sunni Muslims observe fasts throughout this month, while Shia Muslims specifically mourn on the 10th day of Muharram. For Shia Muslims, it is a day of profound sorrow, and some participate in acts of self-flagellation, chest-beating, and forehead cutting as expressions of grief. Many gather in mosques, recite holy books, offer prayers, and show gratitude to Allah during this solemn period. Shia Muslims often come together, leaving their homes, and walk on streets and roads to express their sorrow collectively.

Overall, Muharram serves as a month of devotion, introspection, and remembrance for Muslims worldwide, with Ashura being a focal point of religious observances and commemoration of Hazrat Imam Hussain’s sacrifice.
