Tragic Deaths of Indian Students in Connecticut

Telangana DSP Praneeth Rao arrested for erasing sensitive data and phone tapping, accused of monitoring opposition leaders' phones.

It is with deep sorrow and concern that two Indian students, G Dinesh (22) from Wanaparthy, Telangana, and Nikesh (21) from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, were found dead under suspicious circumstances in their accommodation in Connecticut, USA. The tragic incident has left both families in shock and seeking answers about the circumstances leading to the untimely deaths.

Dinesh and Nikesh had recently moved to the United States for their higher studies, embarking on a journey of academic pursuit and personal growth. Dinesh arrived in Hartford, Connecticut, on December 28, 2023, while Nikesh joined him a few days later. The two students, initially connected through mutual friends, later became close friends and eventually roommates in the U.S.

The news of their deaths reached their families when friends living nearby informed them about the tragic incident on Saturday night. Dinesh’s family, hailing from Wanaparthy, Telangana, is grappling with shock and grief, with no clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding their son’s demise. They were alerted to the incident by Dinesh’s friends who lived in a nearby room.

The families are desperately seeking information and answers about what transpired in the students’ accommodation. Dinesh’s family has reached out to the Union government for support, seeking the intervention of Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Their primary concern is to bring back Dinesh’s mortal remains and to unravel the mystery surrounding the tragic incident.

Wanaparthy MLA Megha Reddy has extended her support to the grieving family, assuring them of assistance in the repatriation process. However, the family faces additional challenges as they have no contact with Nikesh’s family, and the Srikakulam district administration lacks information about Nikesh’s situation.

Srikakulam Police Special Branch DSP K Balaraju stated that they have no information about Nikesh’s death in the USA. Even the district collectorate has not received any details about Nikesh or his family members. The lack of information further compounds the distress for both families, who are left grappling with uncertainty and grief.

In the wake of this tragic incident, the families are urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the deaths of G Dinesh and Nikesh. The focus is not only on seeking answers for the families but also on understanding the larger implications of the incident and ensuring the well-being and safety of Indian students pursuing education abroad.
