As heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightning hit six of the seven emirates in the UAE, residents and authorities are on high alert. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued orange and yellow weather alerts as the country experiences moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

On Monday, thunder, flashes of lightning, and heavy downpours were reported across various parts of the UAE, following scattered rainfall experienced on Sunday. In response to the weather fluctuations, authorities in Dubai issued an early morning weather alert, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid beaches. Reduced visibility on the roads due to unstable weather conditions prompted warnings for drivers to reduce speed and remain vigilant.

The Ministry of Interior also issued a statement highlighting the varying intensity of rain and winds, along with thunder, lightning, and hail. These adverse weather conditions pose risks to public safety, necessitating precautionary measures to minimize potential hazards.

Videos shared by the UAE’s weather department on social media depict the dramatic scenes of thunder, lightning, and hail in the Northern Emirates, emphasizing the severity of the ongoing weather disturbances.

In response to the inclement weather, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation called on private sector companies to implement flexible working arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of employees. Flexible working patterns allow employees to adapt their work schedules in consideration of the challenging weather conditions, reducing the risks associated with commuting and outdoor work activities.

Additionally, employers are urged to prioritize the health and safety of workers by implementing appropriate measures for those engaged in outdoor work. These measures may include providing protective gear, modifying work schedules, or temporarily suspending outdoor activities until conditions improve.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), responsible for regulating schools in the UAE, also issued guidance to educational institutions. With unpredictable weather forecasted, schools, nurseries, and universities are encouraged to consider the needs of parents, staff, and students. The KHDA advised educational institutions to offer the option of distance learning to ensure continuity of education while prioritizing the safety of students and staff.

Amidst the challenging weather conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and follow guidance issued by relevant authorities. Precautionary measures such as staying indoors during thunderstorms, avoiding waterlogged areas, and securing loose objects outdoors can help minimize risks associated with severe weather events.

Drivers should exercise caution on the roads, maintain safe driving speeds, and remain alert for any hazards, including reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces. Beachgoers are advised to avoid venturing into the sea during thunderstorms and rough weather conditions.

By remaining vigilant and adhering to safety guidelines, residents can mitigate the impact of adverse weather events and ensure their well-being during periods of inclement weather. Additionally, staying informed through official channels and heeding advice from authorities will help communities navigate through challenging weather conditions with resilience and preparedness.
