Ranveer Singh is an Indian movie actor predominately working in Hindi (Bollywood) films. He is the winner of numerous awards, comprising off five Filmfare Awards, and is considered amongst top paid actors across the country and has been featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity list since 2012.
Ranveer Singh was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on 6th July 1985 into a Sindhi family. His Father is Jagjit Singh Bhavnani and mother, Anju Bhavnani. His grandparents moved to Bombay from Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan during the Partition of India. Ranveer has a sister named Ritika Bhavnani who is elder than him. Ranveer Singh started dating with Deepika Padukone, his co-star in the movie Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. In the year 2018, the couple announced their impending marriage. The following month, they got married in traditional Konkani Hindu & Sikh Anand Karaj ceremonies held at Lake Como, Italy.
Ranveer Singh had always aspired to be an actor since his childhood. Though, all through his college days, he realized that the idea of getting a break in the film industry was not easy, so he focused on creative writing. Whilst completing his degree in Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, he once again became fascinated towards acting and he decided to take acting classes and took up theatre as his minor.
After moving back towards India, he worked for a few years in advertising as a copywriter, with many agencies. He also worked as an assistant director, but left it to pursue acting. He then decided to send his portfolio to directors, and initiated auditioning for leading roles in the Bollywood film industry.
In the year 2010, Ranveer Singh made his first acting debut with a prominent role in Yash Raj Movie’s romantic comedy titled “Band Baaja Baaraat”. The film appeared as a commercial and critical success, earning Ranveer a Filmfare Award for The Best Male Debut. Following Band Baaja Baaraat,Singh signed on for Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, a romantic comedy, co-starring Anushka Sharma.
He rose to utmost fame with leading roles in much-admired romantic film Lootera, Sanjay Leela Bhansali tragic romantic movie titled Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela opposite Deepika Padukone in 2013, a full of action movie titled Gunday and a comedy movie titled Dil Dhadakne Do. In 2015, Ranveer next reunited with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the period romance Bajirao Mastani, opposite Deepika and Priyanka Chopra, one of the top-grossing Bollywood movies and for which he received a number of awards including Filmfare Award for The Best Actor, established him as a famous actor in Bollywood film industry.
In 2016, he starred in comedy romance Befikre opposite Vaani Kapoor. His top grossing film came with Bhansali’s retro drama Padmaavat, in which he represented Alauddin Khilji. Then Ranveer played the corrupt policeman in Rohit Shetty‘s action comedy Simmba, and reteamed with Zoya Akhtar on Gully Boy. He then portrayed cricketer Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s 83, a sports film based on the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
His first film of 2022 was Jayeshbhai Jordaar, a satire about female infanticide in India. He will next appear in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus.
